What is ChattanoogaNow.com?
ChattanoogaNow.com wants to make it easy for the local or the tourist to take advantage of all that the Chattanooga region has to offer. Whether you are interested in visual arts and museums, performing arts, music, sports, outdoor, or even business meetings, you can find what is happening now – and you can share it with your friends and family. More than an events site, it offers dining, movie listings and hotel accommodations – thus resulting in a turn-key solution for any one visiting the website to learn more about what’s going on in our great city, visiting (if from out of town) or even relocating to the Chattanooga region. Through our calendar, you can search by date, venue, interest category, location, and more. ChattanoogaNow provides links back to event websites for more information and even the option for purchasing tickets to some of these events. Dynamically formatted, the site allows access to information via desktop computer and mobile/portable devices. How did ChattanoogaNow.com come to existence?
In 2009, Allied Arts of greater Chattanooga (now Arts Build) did a sustainability study which found in order for our arts and culture organizations and venues to prosper and grow, they could not be dependent on philanthropic donations but must build their audiences and programs. The main recommendation was to create a central community-wide website which not only promoted and marketed arts and culture events and attractions. However, when the partners got together they saw that cross promotion of events that include sports, outdoors, business events, dining and hotel accommodations, would be more valuable to the user coming to the site – thus centralizing a site for ALL events. Following that, Imagine Chattanooga 20/20, an initiative that envisioned what our cultural community would like in the future, devised a cultural plan that found that residents were hungry for that same type of resource – so that they could help plan, promote, and attend events and attractions in the region. ChattanoogaNow is an outgrowth this cultural plan for our city – of brainstorming and teamwork among key partners in our community, both public and private, to share information which will serve our citizens and those who visit our region. The Chattanooga Publishing Company, Arts Build (formerly Allied Arts), the Chattanooga Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce, River City Company, and the Lyndhurst Foundation have come together to offer this opportunity to our community.
