The City of East Ridge and the Tennessee River Rescue Group are seeking volunteers for the annual Tennessee River Rescue at Spring Creek. This year, the event will be held Saturday, Oct. 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration and a morning briefing will take place at the City of East Ridge garage at 1510 Yale St.

Jones Memorial United Methodist Church’s 35th annual Men’s Club Bar-B-Que is Saturday, Sept. 18. Dining is in the Church Fellowship Hall from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 4131 Ringgold Road.

Summer vacation is officially over in Hamilton County. Students headed back to school last Wednesday. For hundreds of them, that meant a brand-new building. About 750 students walked through the doors at East Ridge Elementary School.

The mission of East Ridge Animal Services is to provide East Ridge residents, both human and animal, with courteous, professional and timely animal care and control services.

The East Ridge Baseball Association is seeking volunteers for the upcoming Dizzy Dean World Series, to be held July 15-22 at Camp Jordan. The tournament is anticipated to bring 5,000 fans from 15 states.

The East Ridge Education Committee is sponsoring a “Meet the School Board Candidates” Forum on Education for District 8.

I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and safe Fourth of July.

East Ridge Revitalization is going to finish weeding and mulching on Saturday at 8 a.m. at Interstate 75 Exit 1 at Ringgold Road. Volunteers will needs newspaper, jugs filled with water and shovels. Parking will be along the side of the road next to where the work is being done — look for the orange cones. This weeding and cleanup will probably be the last major work done until September or October. Show your pride in East Ridge and come out to help.

The East Ridge 10-year-old boys All Stars are trying to raise enough money to go to Southaven, Miss., for the Dizzy Dean World Series. If you can help these children meet their goal, contact Kathy Wooten at 706-858-1234.

The William E. Blair American Legion Post 95 will have a Memorial Day program at 1 p.m. on Monday. The event will be held at Pioneer Frontier, located on Tombras Avenue. Please come out and honor all of the men and women who have died protecting our country and our freedom.
