Fall is in the air and football is on the ground. Yes, it's football time everywhere. Our mighty Trojans are headed to Red Bank Friday night for a showdown beginning at 7:30 p.m. Plan to be there and show your blue and gold.

The hottest news this week is that the "North County Jam" is back. These jam sessions of good music will begin Saturday and continue each Saturday of the month, except the third, throughout the year. Make your way over to the Sale Creek Lions Club, behind Sale Creek School, by 6 p.m. to hear #11 Band with Biggun Welch, followed by Pickin to Beat the Devil and Cedar Creek. Enjoy a covered dish supper and an opportunity to win big prizes for an optional $5 donation. Call Randall Card at 423-595-7942 for more information.

Celebrate those lazy, crazy days of summer with a big ice cream cone. President Ronald Reagan proclaimed the third Sunday in July as National Ice Cream Day. Rosie’s Ice Cream shop will offer 25 handmade flavors along hot dogs, hamburgers, prizes and fun all day on July 18. They are located next to City Hall.

Hot weather tells us July is here. Don't forget the grand celebration of the Fourth is on Saturday at Kids Park by the lake. We have our Vietnam Veterans Chapter 942 to thank for the event. Activities, food and live entertainment are on tap from 9 a.m. until dark. The car show will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fireworks will explode at dark-thirty for all to see from land or boat.

Habitat for Humanity for Soddy-Daisy is busy raising money to fund the much-needed housing for an area resident. A Family Variety Show is taking place Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Soddy Elementary School auditorium. Admission is free and will include local performers such as the 2010 Soddy-Daisy Junior Miss Kaylee Disterdick, Elvis artist Gene Hodge, music by Jody Norris and others. Catherine Jordan, Cleveland Habitat for Humanity homeowner, will give her testimony and share her singing talent with the audience. Come out and show your support for this worthy cause.

Summertime is in full swing; vacations planned or longed for and the biggest event of the year is near.

Wow, Soddy-Daisy citizens continue to give our city national attention.

Summertime is calling. Lemonade, summer camp, festival, fish fries and all the outdoor living we can stand is ahead. Soddy-Daisy High School is planning its annual cheerleading camp June 7-10. The cost is $60 and times are set for 8:30 a.m. until noon. Call Vicki Jackson at 544-4791 for more information.

The biggest news to hit Soddy-Daisy in awhile is the new softball field scheduled to be built.

Spring has sprung and so have all the outdoor sports that we play or love to follow. Our Soddy-Daisy High School Trojans softball team has earned a number "25" spot in the Rise ESPN’s Fab 50 national rankings list. You can watch their last season game at Girls Preparatory School on Friday at 4:30 p.m. I'm betting another state championship is in the works for the team.
