BENTON, Tenn. — State officials said Thursday it’s too soon to know how long it will take to clean up thousands of tons of dirt, rock and trees that cascaded across U.S. Highway 64 beside Parksville Lake in Polk County early in the day.

When the 30th Brigade Combat Team hands over this Northeastern Iraq sector to its National Guard counterparts from Tennessee, the North Carolina unit will return home having lost five soldiers.

Many of the 278th Regimental Combat Unit soldiers are too busy preparing for their mission in Iraq to be aware of the national attention their unit is getting.
