Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., said today that he will continue to push for a final vote on immigration legislation by Friday.
Sen. Frist is pushing legislation that focuses on border security despite a competing bill by members of his own party that includes border security and a temporary worker program for the 11 million illegal immigrants already in the United States.
Sen. Frist said he will continue to meet this week with various Republicans on the issue.
He expressed a willingness to consider that it is not realistic to send all illegal immigrants here today back to their home countries. However, Sen. Frist said does not want illegal immigrants to be awarded with citizenship.
