May steps down as Boyd-Buchanans girls basketball coach

After 20 years, Rick May will no longer be the girls basketball coach at Boyd-Buchanan.

May will remain on the faculty as a middle school teacher.

We decided we would agree to disagree on this and the administration felt it was time for a change, said May, who declined further comment.

May has coached the Lady Bucs basketball team since 1986, winning 279 games during that time. He also briefly coached the girls soccer team and was the Lady Bucs softball coach for seven seasons, winning the Class A state championship in 1989 and advancing to the state tournament four other times, including a runner-up finish.

In its first year after moving up to Class AA, the Lady Bucs finished with a 6-20 overall record.

This is a decision that had been coming for a couple of years, Boyd-Buchanan athletic director Thomas Cole said. There was no one particular thing that led to this move.
