Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield meets with mother on 911 problem

By Ginny LaRoe

Staff Writer

Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield apologized to the Chattanooga mother who couldnt get an emergency operator on the phone after her kitchen caught on fire two weeks ago.

The mayor said he told Stacey Hunter that her son and nephew who ran in the rain to a nearby fire station were heroes.

Mr. Littlefield said Ms. Hunters unanswered 911 calls underscored a chronic problem with the citys 911 call-taking operations.

Chattanooga police Chief Steve Parks has taken responsibility for the incident, and said he is doing everything in his power to get more 911 calls answered.

More than 31,000 calls to 911 in Chattanooga went unanswered last year.
