KNOXVILLE Make room for another in one of the nations top 2006 basketball recruiting classes.
Tennessee received a commitment today from guard Ramar Smith, the nations No. 30 prospect according to Rivals.com. Smith visited Knoxville this past weekend and is expected to sign with the Volunteers on Wednesday, the first day of the spring signing period.
Smith, who is from Detroit, joins four fall signees who already comprised a class rated 12th in the Rivals rankings. Smiths late addition could easily boost Tennessee into the top 10 and perhaps the top five.
At 6-foot-1 and nearly 200 pounds, Smith could play point or shooting guard for the Vols. He averaged nearly 23 points per game as a senior, and has the talent to contribute immediately if he qualifies academically, which is not a certainty.
