As early voting begins Wednesday, local party officials say the period is an important time for them to encourage turnout and get Chattanooga area voters excited about the election cycle.
The early voting period runs April 12-27, except for Sundays and April 14-15, and will cover the May 2 races: county primaries, city judgeships and the special election for Chattanooga City Council District 9.
Hamilton County Election Administrator Bud Knowles said voter turnout for the May 2002 election was a little less than 11 percent, adding that hed like to see that increase this year.
