Nearly 1,800 trucks were inspected and 33 violations discovered at a roadside checkpoint near Chattanooga today, Tennessee Department of Safety spokesman Melissa McDonald said.
Trucks carrying hazardous material, rental trucks and trucks carrying cargo from overseas were targeted.
Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers found four hazardous materials violations, removed two drivers and one truck from service and arrested one driver on a drug possession charge, Ms. McDonald said.
Forty-nine of the trucks that traveled through the checkpoint were hazardous materials vehicles required to display special placards.
The checkpoint was on Interstate 75 near mile marker 13 near the Ooltewah exit.
