Kind words for and memories from Arethas continue to arrive. Eileen Garvey sent this from Canada:
I have been reading the memories of friends and patrons of Arethas and share with them the distress about the recent destruction of this unique eatery.
I am a long time friend of Lee, Jeff's mother who has visited me several times in Vancouver, Canada. November 04 was my turn to visit your South, and I was determined to sample the different sights, smells, culture and, most important to me, the different foods I would not get at home. My very first meal was at Arethas and I chose the Shrimp and Grits, Charleston style, which nearly blew my head off and certainly cleared any sinus problems I may have had!
The responses inspired this note from owner Jeff Brakebill:
Ive been absolutely overwhelmed with goodwill from this community, I honestly had NO idea how much people cared about Arethas. ... As strange as it may sound, I am even more proud of Arethas now than when it was on national television or in Southern Living Magazine. The pride comes from the community telling me that I was indeed part of the community and that they want it back. It doesnt get any better than that!
