DAYTON, Tenn. Rhea County Executive Billy Ray Patton said Tuesday night he would resign from the Rhea County Industrial Development Board after questions arose in a commission workshop about his eligibility to serve on the panel.
Mr. Patton said when he joined the board attorneys told him that even though he was county executive there wouldnt be problems with him serving on the industrial board.
I was advised it was all right, unless someone challenged it, Mr. Patton said. As far as Im concerned, this is the first time someone has challenged it. Ill gladly resign.
Rhea County Commissioner John Mincy questioned Mr. Patton Tuesday for being on the board, saying Tennessee Annotated Code did not allow elected government officials to serve on the board.
