By Wesley Rucker

Staff Writer

Matthew Pope will be named interim athletic director at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in May after Steve Sloan retires, a university spokesman said this morning.

Sloan, who came to UTC four years ago, held a meeting this morning to tell his staff.

Pope came to UTC in 2001 and was named the associate athletic director for internal operations and finance in December 2002. His primary job has been the oversight and supervision of all departmental fiscal operations, but he is also the director of Mocs home football games and directly helps the Division I-AA football national championship game.
