Scenic City Sounds: Galaga is the new water cooler

Filed by M. Trevor Higgins

Things got out of hand during our newsroom volleyball teams weekly game last Tuesday and I was carried out of the YMCA with an ankle the size of a softball. So yesterday, after X-rays and a boot fitting, I spent the day on the couch with my foot high above my heart. With deadlines unshaken, my couch became both work space and play space. Since I couldnt get up, I was forced to spend the evening catching up on video games.

Laugh if you want, but Microsoft and Xbox want to see work and video games combined more often, and theyve got a stable of experts to back them up. Today they launch their Pause to Play initiative, which encourages us to replace the constant button pushing of cell phones and e-mails with the much more relaxing mouse clicks of solitaire showdown. Im sure bosses and those really stressed out folks in Darfur will throw their full support behind the measure.
