The official temperature of 87 degrees recorded today at Chattanooga Metropolitan Airports Lovell Field set a new record for April 14, according to meteorologists with the National Weather Service.
Weather service records for Chattanooga date back to 1879, and the reading at 4:11 p.m. broke the record of 86 degrees that was set in 1981.
Hot, dry days are expected through the weekend, and high temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-80s until mid-week.
There is only a slight chance of showers until after Wednesday.
