Hamilton County Board of Education members voted 8-1 Thursday to hire Dr. Jim Scales to replace outgoing schools Superintendent Jesse Register.
“I hope you all can leave here confident that we have chosen someone who will hit the ground running and bridge gaps in the community,” board member Jeffrey Wilson said.
Board member Rhonda Thurman voted against paying the Dallas Independent Schools’ deputy superintendent $194,000 plus benefits.
“I have had calls from teachers who are very upset,” Mrs. Thurman said. “A lot of employees are upset. I think this will cause a large problem for us, bringing in someone from out of town.”
Dr. Scales is scheduled to start work here July 1 after Dr. Register retires June 30. The board selected Dr. Scales after a nationwide search.
