Sports/Other Special Events: Chickamauga welcomes the Tour

Filed by Mallory Carra

I could tell right away that Chickamauga is fully embracing the Tour de Georgia.

Signs lined the houses and busines on the route to historic downtown, and kids were let out of school early to catch the 11 a.m. start of the time trial. A large number of the kids were sporting yellow Tour de Georgia jerseys ($15 retail).

Kids loudly cheered along with the rest of the crowd as a new rider started every minute.

The crowd was not huge, but it made up for a lack of numbers with an abundance of spirit, happily embracing the event.

After the first half hour the crowd thinned out - a large portion of them headed toward the Chick-fil-A tents.
