With Republican and Democratic primary elections scheduled in Hamilton County May 2, it is really no surprise that many candidates are unopposed. That’s because they have performed so excellently in office that there are good reasons to continue their service and no good reasons for anyone to oppose them.
We congratulate the unopposed candidates for re-election and commend them for their outstanding and conscientious service.
The unopposed incumbent judicial candidates are:
Judge Jackie Schulten, Circuit Court, Division 1.
Judge L. Marie Williams, Circuit Court, Division 3.
Judge W. Neil Thomas III, Circuit Court, Division 4.
Chancellor W. Frank Brown III, Chancery Court, Division 1.
Chancellor Howell N. Peoples, Chancery Court, Division 2.
Judge Rebecca J. Stern, Criminal Court, Division 2.
Judge Don W. Poole, Criminal Court, Division 3.
Juvenile Court Judge Suzanne Bailey.
City Court Judge Russell Bean, Division 2.
Other incumbent officials who are doing excellent jobs and are unopposed are:
District Attorney Bill Cox.
Public Defender Ardena Garth.
County Clerk W.F. (Bill) Knowles.
County Trustee Carl E. Levi.
Circuit Court Clerk Paula Thompson.
Juvenile Court Clerk Ron Swafford.
Register Pam Hurst.
Some of these officials will be listed on the May 2 Democratic primary ballot, some on the Republican primary. Voters may choose to vote in either primary, but not both. Then the winners will be officially elected in the Aug. 3 general election.
We offer them all deserved congratulations.
