Food: New burger, thanks to Shoney's

Filed by Anne Braly

I get a half-dozen press releases each day, on average, from companies touting their latest products. One that came with quite a bit of fanfare — confetti, cups, a drink cozy and more — was from Shoney’s announcing its new Grizzly burger. It’s not often, if ever, that Shoney’s has sent me any information about a new product. I figured nothing much ever changes there, except once, when I used to visit the breakfast bar, I had bacon that was actually crisp.

Shoney’s new burger is not for the timid. The Giant Grizzly Burger is two big slabs of beef totaling 2/3 pound, with all the extras, including Grizzly sauce. I have no idea what the sauce is made of, they didn’t say, but I would imagine it’s not some frou-frou fat-free topping. It’s full of gusto, just like this burger appears to be. There are three other versions of this big daddy: the Cub Burger for kids 10 and under, the Bear Burger with 1/3 pound of beef, and the Grizzly Burger with more than 1/3 pound of beef. All burgers come with fries and coleslaw in case you think you’re not getting enough calories.

If you choose to attack this burger, there are three locations in the Chattanooga area where you can have at it: 2318 Shallowford Road, 6515 Ringgold Road and 712 Battlefield Parkway in Fort Oglethorpe.
