Tech Cast: New software, hardware for video being unveiled

Filed by Donnie Jenkins

This week the NAB show is going on for broadcasters, showing off new software and hardware for video, audio and TV production. I have a business associate there now gathering info for me, so I’ll be reporting on that shortly. Big news there should be the new high definition DVD players Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. As I reported recently, Toshiba recently released the first HD-DVD players starting at $499. Blu-Ray should follow next month, although at a much higher beginning price point.

Mac users, be sure to upgrade to the newest security fixes from Apple. It’s easy to take Mac security for granted, but the landscape is changing fast since the Intel Macs came out.

I talked last week about partitioning a hard drive to use two OS’s on the same computer. Here’s a pcmag.com story on virtualization software, really a better way of doing certain multifunction tasks within one OS.

More later…
