Scenic City Sounds: Dents, shells and interviews

Filed by M. Trevor Higgins

No one ever accused Richard Buckner of being a charmer. Case in point, an e-mail interview last week, which featured several rants that weren’t fit for print. What we could use:

“People who use their journals for their songwriting usually end up eating their own.”

“I’m reading a bunch of stuff (collections of political essays or speeches from over the years, octavio paz, a post-humous Carver story that I’m trying to sort out for music, things like that), but mostly I'm just reading and listening to the news.”

Still, it can make for some interesting music. He plays Rhythm & Brews tonight with former Guided By Voices guitarist Doug Gillard. Admission is $8.
