Jurors acquit man in boating crash

The Associated Press

Rhea County jurors today acquitted a man charged in a fishing tournament boating death after the prosecution and defense used computer-animated evidence paid for by the victim’s father.

Charles N. Kilpatrick was found not guilty of criminally negligent homicide in the December 2001 death of Matt Goins, 31, during a bass fishing tournament on the Tennessee River.

Mr. Kilpatrick, 48, of Dayton, said the collision was an accident.

"It has been a long process," Mr. Kilpatrick said after the verdict.
