DAYTON, Tenn. —; Rhea County Budget Committee members stalled Thursday on finalizing next year’s budget after it was found the school system would need about $80,000 for six additional buses.
“We need to get this done,” said Tom Davis, chairman of the Budget Committee. “That’s what it boils down to.”
County commissioners have said they want to finalize the county budget before a July 1 deadline so they can be free to campaign for re-election.
In a special called meeting Thursday, committee members cut $57,000 from the sheriff’s budget to help pay for the buses.
Additional cuts from other sources could come next week, committee members said.
