NASHVILLE, Tenn. —; A “major announcement” Dell Computer Inc. is scheduled to make today about its Tennessee operations will involve additional jobs, a government official familiar with the announcement told The Associated Press.
The official, who declined to be identified by name because the announcement isn’t official, wouldn’t elaborate on how many jobs could be added.
A news conference was set for this morning, two days after Dell unveiled a new portable computer aimed at tapping into the entertainment market.
Dell CEO Kevin Rollins, Gov. Phil Bredesen and the Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Vince Young were scheduled to attend what the company called an “employee rally” today at its call center and distribution facility in Nashville.
Dell also has a desktop computer assembly plant in the Nashville suburb of Lebanon.
Dell said in its release about the announcement that Young, the Titans top draft pick, will be working with the company on community relations.
