Teen collecting bears for children

By Brian Lazenby

Staff Writer

Dustin Hartman is a 13-year-old student prodigy.

While most kids his age are preparing to begin high school, Dustin is about to graduate both high school and Chattanooga State, but his latest endeavor is to help abused or abandoned children.

Dustin organized a nonprofit organization to collect money and teddy bears to comfort children in need.

He said he got the idea after meeting children through his mom, who is a child protective services worker at the Children’s Advocacy Center. Children there are often given teddy bears to comfort them, but the funds are often not available, he said.
