Lady Vols eliminated

The Associated Press

OKLAHOMA CITY —; Arizona came back to eliminate the Tennessee Lady Vols 6-0 in the Women's College World Series tonight after UT won the first game 1-0 to force the elimination game.

Arizona will play Northwestern in a best-of-three series for the championship. Arizona beat UCLA 3-1 in eight innings.

In the day's first game, former Baylor School star Katherine Card homered and Monica Abbott threw a two-hitter for Tennessee.

Leading off the fifth inning, Card hit the first pitch from Alicia Hollowell (29-5) to center field. The ball was over the wall when it hit the glove of Arizona center fielder Caitlin Lowe, who fell over the fence in an effort to make the catch.

Abbott (44-10), the NCAA’s wins leader this season, struck out seven and walked one to keep the Lady Vols from being eliminated.
