Hamilton County officials are busy putting the final touches on the proposed 2006-07 fiscal year budget this afternoon.
County Mayor Claude Ramsey will present the budget to the County Commission Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Development Resource Center.
Mr. Ramsey said he is not recommending a tax increase. But he said the county won’t be able to fulfill many of the budget requests from individual departments and agencies.
“We’ve made lots and lots of cuts,” Mr. Ramsey said.
A divided County Commission voted 5-4 last year to increase taxes by 26 cents per $100 of assessed value. Officials have said an increase this year would be very unlikely because of last year’s increase and the fact it’s an election year.
