One man died as the result of a high-speed chase Friday night in McMinn County, Tenn., according to Tennessee Highway Patrol dispatchers.
James Eric Benson, 26, of Athens, Tenn., and another motorcyclist were seen committing several traffic violations at about 7:25 p.m. Friday, by two McMinn County sheriff’s deputies, officials said.
THP Trooper David Harmon investigated the incident.
Trooper Harmon’s report states that both bikers initially refused to stop, but one surrendered to authorities after a short pursuit while Mr. Benson continued his attempt to outrun the deputies.
Mr. Benson lost control of his 2006 Honda CBR while in a curve on state Route 305, hit a guardrail and died in the ensuing crash, Trooper Harmon said.
