Over the Edge

Filed by Trevor Higgins

Corky Laing’s drum kit was in trouble early. The drummer for classic rockers Mountain kept knocking his hi-hats off the riser during a raucous performance. At the end of “Mississippi Queen” Laing unleashed, knocking most of the kit to the ground. He stepped over the wreck to the front of the stage, tossed some drum sticks to the crowd, took a bow and walked off.

Over on the Coca-Cola Stage, Jagged Edge flipped slots with Angie Stone, who went on first. It seems Jagged Edge was afraid of getting “sea sick” on the boat ride across the Tennessee River artists take to get to the Coke Stage. Instead, they received an escorted golf cart trip across.

The personal highlight of the night was Blueground Undergrass. They played two sets before a crowd that was in hoe-down mode, dancing to every note.
