Scenic City Sounds: Sittin' at the Strut

Filed by M. Trevor Higgins

Jimbo Mathus knows a lot of people. After sitting in with Duwayne Burnside last night, he brought up Chattanooga’s own John Wesley Myers to plays keys for his entire set at Miller Plaza. Myers knows Mathus from the blues circuit and owns all his records, so joining up for a set was no sweat. Icing on the cake: Today is Myers’ birthday.

Other Strut notes: I had two servings of barbecue, one glass of sweet tea and one glass of Kool Aid. That’s the best I’ve eaten in a week.

Caffeine and The Local went through some discrepancies with the police over their beer permits, but were eventually allowed to sell. Owners of both places said they’ve been through a back-and-forth ordeal to get approval to sell during the Strut.
