Occupation: Retired after being employed as an iron worker in Dayton, Ohio, Phoenix, Ariz., Dallas, Texas and Miami, Fla. Prior to that, in the Marines and served in World War II and the Korean War.
Education: Eighth grade at Hixson Junior High
Family: Two daughters, Beverly Conner and Alicia Cameron; and two sons, Edward Benton Sanders and Ernest Arthur Sanders; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren
Pets: A Pekingese dog named Princess.
Most Favorite Food: Tomatoes, greens and onions. I have a vegetable garden. I was raised on 180 acres of farmland where DuPont is located.
Least Favorite Food: I don’t eat much meat, because it causes you to have a high blood pressure.
Favorite Color: Red
Church: I am a Baptist by faith and I am a member of Hixson First Baptist Church.
Favorite Sports: Baseball and football.
Sports Teams: Atlanta Braves and Tennessee Vols.
Hobbies: Hunting, baseball and writing poetry.
What I like most about living in Hixson: I like Hixson because I know a lot of people here and I went to school here.
Favorite Book: The Bible.
Best Advice: To be nice and kind to people and try to live right.
Favorite Movie: Anything that John Wayne played in. He was a personal friend of mine out in Arizona. He was a nice person.
Future Goals: To live to be 114 if some old jealous husband don’t shoot me!
Greatest Accomplishment: Writing. I made the Poet’s Hall of Fame. I have five poems in the Hall of Fame.
What would you most like to see changed locally: We should try to change traffic because it is bad out there. People should drive at least two car lengths behind other cars. When they cut in front of you too close I honk.
First Job: I worked at the Dixie Spinning Mill sweeping the floors at age 18.
Last Purchase: I buy coffee every morning at Hardee’s.
