LAFAYETTE, Ga. —; A man charged in the Oct. 28 shooting death of another motorist in what authorities called an incident of “road rage” was quickly convicted today by a Walker County Superior Court jury.
Guilty on all counts was the finding against Lance Coleman Rockholt, 36, who was tried on charges of murder, felony murder, two counts aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The charges stemmed from the shooting of Mark A. Pickett, of Cloudland, Ga.
District Attorney Herbert “Buzz” Franklin said Mr. Rockholt shot the victim three times in the chest with a .22-cal. handgun, after Mr. Pickett stopped his truck and went back to confront the driver of the car behind him.
The victim’s young daughter and son, then ages 13 and 6, were sitting in Mr. Pickett’s truck when their father was shot.
The suspect then drove away, leaving the victim’s body in the middle of Georgia Highway 193 in Chattanooga Valley.
Mr. Rockholt faces life in prison, authorities said.
