Will Garth Brooks make cameo at Riverbend?

By Barry Courter Staff Writer

Is he coming or not?

While no one in an official capacity can say for sure, indications are getting stronger that country music superstar Garth Brooks indeed may be traveling with his wife, Trisha Yearwood, for her Friday night show at the Riverbend Festival.

"It appears that he will (be here) from what we have heard," Riverbend Executive Director Chip Baker said. "But it is all hearsay, and I can’t guarantee that he will."

The couple have a hit duet, "Love Will Always Win."

Lauren Kirkland, coordinator of Ms. Yearwood’s tour press, was asked whether Ms. Yearwood would be singing the duet with her husband live or by video. Friday’s show is the first full production of Ms. Yearwood’s new tour.

"As of right now, the duet is not included in her set," Ms. Kirkland said. "Of course, that is always subject to change."

WUSY-FM 100.7 music director Dex Poindexter said he "wouldn’t count on" Mr. Brooks making an appearance.

"They’re building their dream house, and it’s in its final stages," he said. "On the other hand, with his spontaneity, it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Garth show up."

Staff writer Susan Pierce contributed to this story.
