It used to be Bogie and Bacall.
Now, declares one Maria Salas of NBC-TV, Miami, "Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves are the best on-screen couple of our generation."
Long, melancholy pause.
Melancholy because it’s actually possible that she’s correct — and that’s a depressing prospect for moviegoers.
Bullock-Reeves is, to be sure, irredeemably dreadful — he more so than she. But what on-screen couple is better these days?
Broderick-Kidman in "The Stepford Wives"? Appallingly lousy.
J-Lo and former flame Ben Affleck in "Gigli"? Get my rifle.
Pitt-Jolie in, well, anything? Dumber than two 50-pound sacks of rocks.
Heck, those bozos make even Redford-Streisand seem almost tolerable in the grotesque "The Way We Were."
Yes, it may be that Miss Bullock and Mr. Reeves, they of "Speed" fame, are the best there are.
I’m sure glad there's so much top-notch programming on television these days.
