Aquatic exercise
Swimming-pool exercise classes that help support joints in order to encourage free movement are scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday and from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Chattanooga Lifestyle Center. Balance screening
Erlanger and Siskin hospitals offer a screening to assess balance and stability from 8:30 to 11 a.m. March 29 at Erlanger Women's East. The noninvasive evaluation, an excellent screening for seniors, helps determine if further testing or treatment are needed. To register call 778-LINK.
Bone density
A pixi screening of the ankle, which indicates if treatment or further examination for osteoporosis are needed, is scheduled from 8:30 to 11 a.m. March 29 at Erlanger Women's East. To register, call 778-LINK.
Cancer
-- Memorial Hospital provides complimentary massages to cancer patients, currently in treatment, on three days each week -- Tuesday at Memorial North Park and Wednesday and Thursday on Memorial's main campus. Call 495-7778 for an appointment.

CF Fundraiser
"Great Strides," a benefit event for cystic fibrosis research, begins with registration at 7 a.m. March 31 in front of the Lee University Student Union. Start for the 5K road race is 8:30 a.m. The walk begins at 10 a.m. According to sponsors of the event, community volunteers and the university, Great Strides is the largest national fundraiser for the CF Foundation. Childhood obesity
Dr. Mihail Subtirelu talks about serious implications of childhood obesity from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. March 27 at Erlanger Women's East. The discussion covers problems associated with this condition: hypertension, lipid abnormalities and insulin resistance, a pre-diabetic condition. Call 778-LINK to register for the talk.
Diabetes
-- A class on diabetes meal planning and carbohydrate counting is offered from 2:15 to 4:30 p.m. March 27 and from 8:45 to 11 a.m. March 29 at Memorial's Diabetes and Nutrition Center. Help with arranging for the required physician's referral is available at the registration number, 495-7970.
-- The ABCs of Diabetes, a two hour seminar on controlling diabetes for people on insulin, is from 4 to 6 p.m. March 27 at HealthLink Plus in Northgate Mall. The first hour covers carb-counting basics for optimal diabetes management, and the second hour provides information on insulin pump therapy and continuous glucose monitoring. Fitness

Lipid/glucose screening
A Cholestech lipid/glucose screening is from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 29 at HealthLink Plus in Northgate Mall. A 12-hour pre-test fast is required for accurate results, which are available on an as-you-wait basis. The lipid panel, which shows HDL, LDL, total cholesterol, non-HDL, cholesterol ratio and triglycerides, costs $20. The lipid/glucose test is $25. Reservations are required. Weight-loss surgery
