Proposed four-lane highway linking McKee Foods to I-75 receives funding

By Mike Pare

Staff Writer

A planned new four-mile highway providing McKee Foods Corp. in Collegedale with a more direct link to I-75 has received about $1.2 million in state and federal funds for engineering.

The road will tie into I-75 where a new interchange is under construction at Enterprise South Industrial Park. Work on that part of the new four-lane highway is under way from the interchange through the industrial park to Highway 58.

Hayes Ledford, the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce’s vice president for public affairs, said Hamilton County’s chief economic development entity “worked very hard to see this project included in the Tennessee Department of Transportation budget.”

“It will be very beneficial to McKee,” he said.

The money gives TDOT authorization to fund the planning and environmental work necessary to complete a set of preliminary plans.
