East Ridge resident Kenny Smith announced today he will run for the District 8 seat on the Hamilton County Board of Education. He is running against Randy Gutshall for the seat currently held by Debbie Colburn, who is not seeking re-election.
Mr. Smith, 53, directs Chattanooga Electrical Apprenticeship and Training Center, a five-year training program for electricians. He said if elected, he will work to ensure Hamilton County students understand all of their post-secondary options.
“Not everyone is going to college,” he said. “(Those who aren’t) need to know what other options are available so they can make an educated choice.”
Mr. Smith said he will work to improve communication among school board member, county commissioners and business groups.
The election is Aug. 3.
