Scenic City Sounds: Fourth of Podly

Filed by M. Trevor Higgins

It’s Fourth of July weekend so get yourself to a barbecue, a pool, a natural body of water or some pyrotechnics. We’ve got an appropriate podcast for this weekend: Zac Brown chats during dinner with his band followed by his song “Chicken Fried.”

Also for the weekend, here are some fun 4th facts, courtesy of the Census Bureau:

—; 2.5 million people lived in the original colonies in July of 1776.

—; 150 million hot dogs, all varieties, expected to be consumed in the U.S. this weekend.

—; Total value of fireworks imported from China in 2005: $201.9 million. Last year the U.S. exported $14.9 million of fireworks. The biggest purchaser of those was Australia.

Just for reference, here’s the Bill of Rights. My favorite amendment: No. 1, of course.

If you’ve seen “Superman Returns” let me know. I’m still having mixed emotions about the event. Then again, I brought my lunch today in a metal Superman lunch box, so maybe I should keep my thoughts to myself.
