Shaw Industries announced today it will reopen its plant in South Pittsburg, Tenn.
The Dalton, Ga.-based carpet maker said it will invest $20 million in the project, which could create up to 200 jobs. Shaw closed the Marion County manufacturing plant and idled about 390 workers in the summer of 2004.
Jeff Williams, director of hard surface manufacturing for Shaw, said the company is excited to be back in Marion county and will benefit from the availability of a quality work force and low operating costs in Southeast Tennessee.
Shaw also purchased land adjacent to the 12th Street plant for possible future expansion.
