Hamilton County Schools Deputy Superintendent Rick Smith today withdrew his name from consideration in the search for a new the superintendent.
In a letter announcing his decision, Mr. Smith said he wished to prevent further strife in the process and the community.
The superintendent's search committee also announced today that it plans to hold another vote at 5 p.m. Friday on finalists for the Board of Education to consider.
He said he respected the process a search advisory committee used Saturday to eliminate him and two others from six finalists. Mr. Smith said the committee worked in a fair and conscientious manner.
Earlier today, Hamilton County Commission Chairman Larry Henry said he believed the voting process the committee used to select the three finalists violated the states open meetings law. Mr. Henry, who served on the search advisory committee, said the school board should reject the committees work and interview the six applicants itself.
