Ive gotten several e-mails lately asking about the new DVD formats that are just now starting to be released. Toshiba released a notebook with a HD-DVD drive inide. Since this beauty costs over $3000 even in its most basic configuration, its definitely for early adopters only. The competition called Blu-Ray has yet to appear in any real form, although there have been prototypes shown. Both of these will be very expensive for the foreseeable future, both discs and players. Maybe by the end of the year we will have computer drives under $400 but dont count on it. However there is already a $500 desktop HD-DVD Toshiba player close to being released, as well as a higher priced model which is almost the same. More on this as it progresses
Im already getting groans of recognition from my column this week on backup. Apparently I do not suffer alone, as many of you wrote to tell me of your Titanic like experiences with computer crashes. I feel your pain.
Thanks for readingmore to come.
