City proposes buying Farmers Market

The city of Chattanooga is proposing to buy the Farmers Market on 11th Street for $775,000.

Mayor Ron Littlefield said today he will present the plan to the City Council Tuesday night. The land will be used by the nearby Community Kitchen for a day shelter, including facilities for Internet access and job counseling, Mayor Littlefield said.

The property also will be used to store Department of Public Works equipment and other city-owned materials now stored at Memorial Auditorium, Mr. Littlefield said.
