South Pittsburg High School has named girls basketball assistant coach David Phillips to head the boys program, succeeding Ryan Lewis, who resigned after 41 wins in two seasons to spend more time with his family. Phillips was boys coach from 1998 to 2003 at Marion County High, his alma mater, and had 56 wins at the Jasper school.
Were very pleased to have found someone who is very qualified for the job and was already on staff here, South Pittsburg principal Marjorie Allison said. Im very confident that Coach Phillips will do a great job for us.
Im excited about the opportunity to get back into being a head coach, Phillips said.
