At the time, Blue Merle seemed like a solid book for Riverbend, a friendly band with a singer that sang like Coldplay. They had a radio hit and Bonnaroo performance under their belt. However, their show on April 21st at Vanderbilt’s Rites of Spring would be their last. Riverbend didn’t know until after they were booked, and after it was too late to change the program guide. Now, instead of Blue Merle, we get the guy from Blue Merle on the Covista Stage.
This is disappointing. The same spot on the Covista Stage last year brought some great performances: North Mississippi Allstars, Cowboy Mouth, Colin Hay. I’m don’t mean to write of Lucas Reynolds already, but this could have been a slot to get excited about.
