ATHENS, Tenn. —; The director of the Etowah senior citizens center resigned today at a special called meeting of the center’s parent governning board.
The board of McMinn County Senior Citizens Inc. voted unanimously to accept the resignation of Joyce Reece.
An investigation by the board’s attorney found that Mrs. Reece had ordered merchandise from a philanthropic agency using the Etowah center’s nonprofit status. The merchandise was shipped to a retail store in Etowah, according to the investigation.
The board has asked the district attorney’s office to investigated and one of its funding agencies, United Way of McMinn County, has asked to meet with board members to monitor impacts on the agency’s nonprofit status, officials said.
