Sony previewed the Playstation 3 game console this week, and it is going to be something else. It will include a CD-DVD-Blu Ray player, network capability via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Ethernet, Dolby Digital Surround Sound, and more. Should be priced starting at $599. This is the machine that may give the Blu-Ray format the edge.
America Online’s AIM division is launching AIM Pages to compete with the success of MySpace, a huge online community site. AOL can be a contender here, simply because of its installed Instant Messenger base. Keep an eye on this one.
Toshiba has released a $3,000 notebook computer with HD-DVD drive, so you can watch movies in HD on a notebook for the first time. Or, you could buy 10 or 15 used computers for the same price…or 600 used DVD’s…and on and on.
