The Eastgate Food Court recently welcomed another eatery, and it’s a familiar face in Chattanooga’s deli market. Gary Volpe, owner of the former Yellow Submarine at Coolidge Park, has now opened Submarino’s in the Town Center Cafes at Eastgate Town Center.
Wow! Have you been to Eastgate lately? It’s been years since I entered the old mall, and what a sight my eyes beheld. Gorgeous fountains and splendid design really make it feel like a small town. The architects did wonders. But, enter the food court and you’ll be blown away.
Gary’s new restaurant is one of four eateries. Hanner’s is a meat-and-three place. Sharon’s Cafe offers burgers, dogs, fries and more. Cafe Romaine serves up fresh salads and sandwiches, while Submarino’s menu includes many former Yellow Submarine favorites, including baked cheese ziti once a week.
The variety of what the Town Center Cafes’ eateries is what Gary appreciates.
“It’s diverse,” he said. “We all do different things.”
He said that many of his former patrons have come over to Eastgate, and the best time to come is before noon or after one o’clock. With all the Blue CrossBlue Shield and Convergys employees, as well as all other businesses in Eastgate Town Center, the restaurants are slammed at the height of the lunch hour. So, get there early or late. Most close by 3 p.m.
It’s exciting to see the new life that Eastgate is now experiencing. Check it out.
