The Alhambra Shrine Circus will perform for its 44th year this weekend at Camp Jordan Arena. Circus Chair Mark Weems promised the show would have all of the old favorites along with some new ones.
We revitalize the show every year, Mr. Weems said. Anyone looking for acrobats, elephants, horses, clowns, physical feats, lions and tigers will not be disappointed. Mr. Weems said the act he wouldn’t miss is the unrideable mule and that the performing dogs do things you wouldn’t believe.
I guarantee it will rival anything Ringling Brothers does and we’re a whole lot cheaper, he said.
All the shows, Thursday through Sunday, are $10 per seat and include a bound program and activity book. Small children who sit on their parent’s lap are free. Parking at Camp Jordan is $5.
Proceeds from the circus and concessions benefit the Alhambra Shrine. The ticket cost is not tax deductible because it does not go directly to their philanthropic efforts with burn victims. Mr. Weems explained the proceeds take care of their fraternity needs such as the light and water bills for the temple.
This fundraiser allows our fraternity to continue the work that we do in our philanthropy, he said.
Part of that fraternity includes the Shrine clowns. Kids will have an opportunity to have their picture taken with the famous clowns at the circus. There will also be elephant rides for kids of all ages.
Over 20,000 people could come to the arena this weekend. I hope we fill it every night, Mr. Weems said.
He thanked everyone at Camp Jordan, East Ridge police and emergency medical and city employees for their help in this cooperative effort.
