KNOXVILLE -- University of Tennessee men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl has filed for divorce, according to a university spokesperson. The spokesperson said the document was filed in Knox County, citing "irreconcilable differences."

The 47-year old Pearl and Kim, 50, were married Sept. 12, 1982.

"This is a very difficult time for my family and me," Pearl said today in a statement. "It is my hope that everyone will understand that this is a personal matter and respect our privacy."

The Pearls have four children -- including son Steven, who will be a redshirt freshman for the Vols this season.

A UT spokesperson said Pearl does not plan on commenting any further on the matter.

Lady Vols basketball coach Pat Summitt filed for divorce from husband R.B. Summitt on Aug. 15 in Blount County, citing "irreconcilable differences."
