Decisions, decisions

As the beat writer for high school soccer and cross country, I realized yesterday I’m going to need two of me for the upcoming state tournaments.

The state girls’ soccer finals of the Class A/AA and AAA will take place Nov. 3 in Chattanooga, while the TSSAA state cross country meet for all classifications is that morning in Nashville.

I didn’t have the problem of colliding state tournaments last year because I wasn’t the main soccer writer and the TSSAA scheduled the state soccer tournament a week earlier than they did this year.

Decisions, decisions. It all depends on who makes it where.

In cross country, Chattanooga Christian’s Jessica Duble is the reigning Class A/AA individual champion. McCallie is the Division II defending team champion. The top 10 individual runners from each classification will qualify from Region 3 and Division II.

Last year in girls’ soccer, the following local teams made runs for state titles: Notre Dame, Baylor, GPS. None of those teams played in a championship match in 2006.

But this year could be different.

I guess it’s up to my bosses to ultimately decide what I will do.

I am still getting e-mails from parents regarding my Sept. 16 article about soccer players who also run cross country. Here is another crossover fall athlete to add to the long list: GPS’ Catherine Fields.
